About Local Animal Protection

We are a Sydney-based non-profit on a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and dogs in need across New South Wales.

Our story

Local Animal Protection began in 2020, in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. As international students and other temporary residents were forced to leave Sydney, many faced the heartbreaking reality that they could not take their pets with them. Seeing animals suddenly left without secure homes, a small group of local volunteers stepped forward to help.

What began as an urgent community response has grown into an ongoing commitment to rescue, foster, and rehome cats and dogs across Sydney. We believe every animal deserves safety, compassionate care, and a loving family. By working with foster carers, veterinary professionals, and members of the community, we help animals through times of uncertainty and give them the chance to begin again.

Our values

Everything we do is guided by compassion, transparency, and respect for animals and people.

Compassion

We treat every animal as an individual with unique needs and a unique personality.

Commitment

From rescue to rehoming, we stand by every animal in our care.

Community

We partner with locals, foster carers, and volunteers to create lasting change.
